OK so on my recent trip from Detroit to Phoenix, the Asian wife and I had dinner at a Cracker Barrel. Now I know to many of you, especially the gays, this is a crime. In 1991 Cracker Barrel fired 11 gay employees after some small minded hick customer complained about some gays that worked there. Many were shocked. Boycotts by the gays and their allies ensued and bad press swirled about. Many public companies really don’t like bad press.
After a share-holder referendum the following Equal Opportunity Statement became policy at all Cracker Barrel stores:
Employment opportunities at Cracker Barrel Old Country Store, Inc. are open to all qualified applicants solely on the basis of their job-related experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities. Qualified applicants are considered for all open positions for which they apply and for advancement without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, national origin, age, marital status, or the presence of a medical condition or disability. Cracker Barrel complies with all applicable federal, state and local laws with regard to equal employment opportunity. Advancement is based entirely on an individual’s demonstrated performance, job-related ability, skills, and knowledge and the resulting potential for promotion to the job openings applied for. Cracker Barrel will not tolerate any form of discrimination, harassment or retaliation affecting its employees or applicants due to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, national origin, age, marital status, medical condition, or disability.
If you don’t believe me you can read the Cracker Barrel Equal Opportunity Statement yourself.
Simply stated: if you continue to not eat at Cracker Barrel because you think they don’t like the gays, you are hurting the share holders who supported and implemented the above equal opportunity statement.
So those of you that TRIED to make me feel bad can take the bad-gay-guilt you attempted to put on me (for enjoying some tasty Cracker Barrel) and shove it up your well-intentioned asses
