Summer of Potter

So I don’t really have much to say other than I’ve finished The Deathly Hallows. Tremendous book. I can see why J.K. Rowling was emotional as it ended. There were several times that I laughed out lout and spooked the cat and a few times I said, “Oh noes!” If you’re a fan, read it.

I broke down today and went to Borders to buy a copy. About 70 pages in, my mother calls to tell me her copy arrived today.. I told her I broke down and bought a copy of my own, as I was just going to read the one she had when I made my way to Kentucky in August. I just couldn’t wait! I’m about ten chapters in, taking a brief respite to check my emails and such.

This is a really good book so far.

Finished Books

So far in the last week I have finished three lovely books:

  1. Harry Potter and The Half-Blood Prince
  2. The Zombie Survival Guide
  3. Tales from Watership Down

Which leaves only one book that is in the “started, but not finished” category: Earth in the Balance: Ecology and the Human Spirit.

Summer of Potter: Two books left

Order of the Phoenix is now officially re-read and completed on schedule right before the movie comes out! I am going with Emitt and a classmate of his to see it at the Harkins Tempe Cine Capri, which means about 40,000 watts of surround sound from 150+ speakers on a screen that is seventy feet wide and forty feet tall in a theatre that can seat over 600 people. The energy in that room will be amazing.

I have 1,436 pages of Harry Potter books left to read, 652 of which are published. Mom will be holding the 7th book hostage until I visit her, so I’m booking a flight tomorrow. :) But I don’t have to be in such a hurry any more. w00t

It is fair to say at this point, that I’m breathing and dreaming in the world of Harry Potter right now. Still lots of reading to do, and I can’t cut back on the pace. 8 days until the Order of the Phoenix movie comes out, and only 18 days until the final book, The Deathly Hallows. I need to arrange my flight to Kentucky so I can ninja the last book from my mom…

I am ~15.76% through the Harry Potter franchise. (650 pages down, 3475 to go total out of 4125 (3341 of which are published)). The year of Zombies is on temporary hiatus until the Summer of Potter is concluded.

How nerdy is this?

Even though I’m already in the middle of two other books, now that I’ve finished with Day Watch I’m going to re-read the Harry Potter series again before the last book comes out, so I can be fully refreshed…

Besides, I have a full year to read books for Year of the Zombie ;)

Day Watch Yes I’m posting about this whole Day Watch thing again. But look at it this way, you won’t see any more posts about it for a while for two reasons: One, I’ve already seen the movie and posted about it. Two, now that I’ve read the book, after this post all I will be posting about is the book Twilight Watch, which happens to be the third and final book of the series. :)

I don’t really have anything to say other than if you liked the moves and or the first book, the second book keeps the same pace and has the same O-M-G plot-twists in it that one comes to expect from this series. In a similar vein to Night Watch, Day Watch is really three different stories within one book. Whereas Night Watch was all about the stories of the “good guys,” Day Watch isn’t so much about the “bad guys” as one might imagine. Ambiguity seems to be the key. If you’re interested, grab a copy :)
