Stress, I has it

SchoolStuff Add a comment »

This week sucked.  Monday sucked, Tuesday was long, Wednesday was the peak of stress, today wasn’t nearly as bad - in fact other than just being tired, today was pretty good.

Overall, it still sucks.  I had to cancel all my social activities this weekend to make sure that I can still get in to finish up my photos for finals, since I am going on Monday rather than on the actual finals day. ICK-Y

I have to get up early tomorrow to get some last minute negatives developed and ready to print for Monday.  Ugh. Mo’fu’n life ruining going on.

At least SciFriday brings me new Battlestar Galactica.  Mmmmmmmmm.

Winter Breaking

YAY. I haven’t had to do a single thing for FIVE WHOLE DAYS now. Its amazing.

Of course, those five days were interrupted with the new neighbors. Gone are the middle-eastern-smells-like-hookah-bar neighbors - in there place are fresh-out-of-the-dorm children who have no concept of how loud they are. Five nights in a row the music was soo loud that I literally could not escape it even if I went into my bedroom (farthest from the common wall) and closed the door.

calls in noise complaint

I actually heard the management knock on her door and tell her there was a noise complaint. Made me feel all warm and squishy inside!

Elizabeth is almost certainly pregnant. At least, that’s according to my Internet diagnostics. Best guess is she’s gonna pop dem babies out during the first two weeks of January. I think I might send one to Kentucky as a birthday present to my dad… Both kids have a Dr. appointment on Thursday - hopefully I will receive final confirmation of baby-on-board-ness as well as an expected squirting-out date.

Grades were yummy this semester too: 3 A’s and one A+ w00t

I still have many things to do before I leave on Saturday. sigh

Last Day of the Semester

SchoolStuff, Zombies! 1 Comment »

Today was the last full day of classes for the semester. I’m stressed. Tomorrow is ‘reading day’ which is the one day break between classes and finals… I only have one final that is an exam to prepare for, and one short paper to write.

My main problem right now is my photogravure class. It is so much work and such a stressor to me right now that I’m kinda numb all over.. I’m having to re-etch three out of my four plates because I apparently didn’t etch them long enough… I feel like I’ve been told how to etch four different ways between the two professors for this class. Not only that, but one of my classmates ordered us a bunch of paper for printing onto from some outfit in Chicago and we think they sent us the wrong kind - its too thin and light for what it should have felt like. I feel like a zombie.

BLARGH.

They Liked My Arts

On Friday I submitted my ‘Wide Stance’ project to the Juried Undergraduate Exhibition here at the school of arts. I am happy to say that they were accepted! The images that I used on the napkins can be found on a previous post.

I am very excited about this :)

Wide Stance
Wide Stance.

These are some of the images that I used in my ‘Wide Stance’ project - poking fun of and exploiting/exploring the issues brought up when Senator Craig of Idaho got busted for soliciting sex in a men’s restroom at the Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport. There’s a whole lot about the story, so Google it or check it out on Wikipedia.. But he claimed he wasn’t soliciting sex after all, and that his toe-tapping was actually because of his ‘Wide Stance’ thus began the project… Some of these images are probably NSFW, so click at your own risk ;)

What’s Rich up to?

Informational posts have been few and far between I feel, so here’s a quick ketchup post:

  • London trip for winter session was cancelled due to lack of people signing up for it. shakes angry fist
  • I am extremely busy with school right now.
  • I was elected to be the Vice-President of my fraternity (or, as I call it the President of Vice).
  • My car turned 70,000 miles old.
  • I finally got my flashes (the second time) and I was refunded for the first ones (that disappeared in FedEx’s hands)
  • My neighbors moved away taking their hookah-bar and heavy-cologne smell away (yay) but I think they also took “Porch Kitty” which I was kinda hoping they’d be irresponsible owners and leave him so I could adopt! Mr. B is now searching for a new pre-occupation.
  • I have been shooting like a madman for my photo classes, and I’m worried that I won’t have anything for my projects.
  • The more I learn about photography the more inadequate I feel.

Life is weird.

24 days till new Battlestar Galactica episodes air!!!!!!

Graduating in 2008

SchoolStuff, Zombies! 3 Comments »

Oh noes! I had advising today and dropped my second major, so now I’ll officially be a college graduate in December of 2008.

scary

No idea what I want to do at that point - do I apply immediately to Graduate school? Take a semester off and travel? Find gainful employment?

I dunno!

But that’s OK because I have 14 months to decide ;)

Week End Update

Getting Old: I survived my 30th birthday! My fraternity brothers and I went to Buffalo Wild Wings and we had delicious hot-wings to celebrate. My mom sent me a crazy card that read something like “Oh, if only I could be 30 again - wait - I was unemployed and pregnant” which nearly made me drive off the road I was laughing so hard. But I regained control because I didn’t want to make the news as one of those senile old men that drives into a crowded market and kills half-a-dozen people.

Travel/Shenanigans: So today we’re going to California… to SoCal to Gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay Disney this weekend.. I’m driving someone else’s car and there are five of us… I hope I can survive :) This will be my first trip to California - granted I’m going to be in LA which most people just kinda roll their eyes about - but whatever - its one more state I can add to my list of places visited. Several of my classmates told me I should visit the San Francisco-and-north region of the state, which is fine and dandy but that isn’t the goal of this weekend :) I think I’ll just get a job this spring and buy a motorcycle and tour the west this summer with a tent and my camera. THAT would be awesome.

Travel: I got my passport back already today - one full week’s turn-around time - I think that’s pretty impressive.

School: I sought the advice of the sages, and they pretty much agreed with what I want to do: Drop the Interdisciplinary Studies BIS degree and just focus on the Photography BFA degree. I can still do a sociology minor, but this clears the way for me to graduate on time which at this point is a major goal. It also frees up my schedule a bit to focus more on art classes and opens the way for me to find an internship/job next year during my (final) senior year at ASU. w00t.

Battlestar Cracklactica: SciFi channel is advertising a lot for their new Battlestar Galactica mini-series which means one thing: its coming in December. They’re advertising it so heavily that I hope they don’t OVER hype it.. but who am I kidding - I’ll love it even if its ridiculous.

ZOMBIES: Speaking of ridiculous - on Monday some of the brothers and pledges went to go see Resident Evil: Extinction. Amazing Zombie movie. Plus, as in all her other films, you get to see Milla Jovovich’s ta-ta’s.

Swinging London is on!

Friday was the big “make the commitment” day for me on the London trip. I paid the application fee, sent my passport renewal in and enrolled in the winter inter-session class for it. Plane tickets are on hold for me so I’m pretty stoked! British Airways has a direct flight from Phoenix to London and back which is amazing to me. I’m not going to book my flights until I’m sure I can go though. No sense in spending that kinda money :)

My birthday is in 2 days. I sent mom flowers on Saturday since she was having a party and I wanted her to show them off to her friends :)

First Day Thoughts

KangaBlabba, SchoolStuff, Shenanigins Add a comment »

Today was the first day of classes at ASU and it was pretty crazy on campus… This being my third year here, I think this was by far the weirdest first day of classes so far. First off, it was HOT and HUMID today - hot is normal, humid makes suck. Everyone was shweaty and it was overall total grossness.

My first class was a lot of fun, my professor is pretty wacky and the class (Race/Gender issues in Science Fiction) is going to be a lot of fun I think. My second class was cancelled because the professor was in a wreck of some sort, which left a gaping hole of three hours needing to be filled. Sigma Phi Beta was tabling today trying to recruit the young gays for our fraternity so I went to join them only to find that the table was in complete sunlight and after about 5 minutes I just couldn’t take the heat and told them that while I loved them, I would die if I stayed out there any longer. I think they eventually pooled money and bought a tent/awning from Ace Hardware to provide shade, which was a very good idea.

My third class today was the Painting II class I signed up for, but the teacher is no longer at ASU so it was a new teacher.. while the class sounds like a lot of fun, I’m going to drop it and add Photogravure which I was fortunate enough to get an over-ride and permission to enroll in! This pleased me greatly… it will be a lot of work but ASU is one of a handful of schools that teach the process and ASU is the ONLY school in the US that teaches both photogravure and colloytype, which are both older processes. I’m really interested in these two processes as well as daguerreotypes… I’m not sure any school teaches daguerreotypes because the process is pretty cumbersome, expensive and damn toxic - you use mercury vapors to develop the latent image on a pure silver surface. Cha-ching!

Tomorrow is Advanced Photos and Understanding Photographs.

I’m also really kinda screwed this week because my car has decided, quite timely, to break down on me. Currently it is sitting in a parking lot about a mile from my house because I couldn’t shift it into gear whilst driving on my way from dinner to a meeting last night. You can’t get it towed from point A to point B without giving the key over to the tow truck driver, which means I have to be WITH the car when the tow truck arrives. With today being the first day of classes and timing being off every attempt to move my car failed miserably. So hopefully I’ll get it taken care of tomorrow, and hopefully I’ll get a nice rental to drive while they fix my car.

Stupid car.
