MINI’s are heavy

Soo I got my car new shoes for Xmas, and they arrived by UPS today. I got two on very easily but the third wheel turned out to be a bit dramatic… you see something caused the jack to slip from the car and my hand was under the tyre when that happened.

* stares at hand *

LUCKILY my fraternity brother, neighbor and frequent target of abuse Jimmy was just hanging out with me when it happened. We both kinda stared at my finger, under the tire, for a few moments before we realized what happened. Then the pain kicked in.. its not comfortable having a car on a finger. After shouting at him to get his roommates cars jack and call 911 I managed to get my jack out from under the car and get the other one under the car and the car off my finger.

It was black from the brake dust and asphalt, and flat from the car. No kidding - perfectly flat. About after about 2 minutes a fire truck full of very attractive firepersons and paramedics showed up to take pulse, etc. I dunno why i told him to call 911 - it just seemed to be the appropriate thing to do when a car is on your finger. Anyway, they did the pulse thing and the blood pressure thing and offered to call a bambalance but Jimmy was able to take me to the ER so i saved myself that bill.

I wrapped my finger in frozen peas (organic, naturally) and headed off to the ER. Little bit of this, little bit of that and a few X-rays later the Dr. comes out and says “I can’t believe it, but the X-rays don’t show any fractures!” YAY lucky day for me!

So I have a date with the ASU health clinic sometime next week for a follow up - but so far so good. I may have a torn ligament or something perhaps but no broken bones.

Welcome to 2008!

Winter Breaking

YAY. I haven’t had to do a single thing for FIVE WHOLE DAYS now. Its amazing.

Of course, those five days were interrupted with the new neighbors. Gone are the middle-eastern-smells-like-hookah-bar neighbors - in there place are fresh-out-of-the-dorm children who have no concept of how loud they are. Five nights in a row the music was soo loud that I literally could not escape it even if I went into my bedroom (farthest from the common wall) and closed the door.

calls in noise complaint

I actually heard the management knock on her door and tell her there was a noise complaint. Made me feel all warm and squishy inside!

Elizabeth is almost certainly pregnant. At least, that’s according to my Internet diagnostics. Best guess is she’s gonna pop dem babies out during the first two weeks of January. I think I might send one to Kentucky as a birthday present to my dad… Both kids have a Dr. appointment on Thursday - hopefully I will receive final confirmation of baby-on-board-ness as well as an expected squirting-out date.

Grades were yummy this semester too: 3 A’s and one A+ w00t

I still have many things to do before I leave on Saturday. sigh

Last Day of the Semester

SchoolStuff, Zombies! 1 Comment »

Today was the last full day of classes for the semester. I’m stressed. Tomorrow is ‘reading day’ which is the one day break between classes and finals… I only have one final that is an exam to prepare for, and one short paper to write.

My main problem right now is my photogravure class. It is so much work and such a stressor to me right now that I’m kinda numb all over.. I’m having to re-etch three out of my four plates because I apparently didn’t etch them long enough… I feel like I’ve been told how to etch four different ways between the two professors for this class. Not only that, but one of my classmates ordered us a bunch of paper for printing onto from some outfit in Chicago and we think they sent us the wrong kind - its too thin and light for what it should have felt like. I feel like a zombie.

BLARGH.

What’s Rich up to?

Informational posts have been few and far between I feel, so here’s a quick ketchup post:

  • London trip for winter session was cancelled due to lack of people signing up for it. shakes angry fist
  • I am extremely busy with school right now.
  • I was elected to be the Vice-President of my fraternity (or, as I call it the President of Vice).
  • My car turned 70,000 miles old.
  • I finally got my flashes (the second time) and I was refunded for the first ones (that disappeared in FedEx’s hands)
  • My neighbors moved away taking their hookah-bar and heavy-cologne smell away (yay) but I think they also took “Porch Kitty” which I was kinda hoping they’d be irresponsible owners and leave him so I could adopt! Mr. B is now searching for a new pre-occupation.
  • I have been shooting like a madman for my photo classes, and I’m worried that I won’t have anything for my projects.
  • The more I learn about photography the more inadequate I feel.

Life is weird.

24 days till new Battlestar Galactica episodes air!!!!!!

Day of the Zed
Day of the Zed.

Yesterday was Toronto Zombie Walk 2007. Hundreds, or maybe over a thousand zombies walked the streets of Toronto which ended at a screening at Bloor Cinema for Toronto After Dark Film Festival.

News from the Homeland

KangaPolitik, Shenanigins, Zombies! 3 Comments »

According to CNN (which means this is of dubious and highly speculative nature anyway) “Sen. Sam Brownback will end his bid for the presidential nomination on Friday, two sources close to the Kansas Republican tell The Associated Press.”

Thank the goddess. He was always a long-shot, since he’s only slightly more liberal than Fred Phelps. This will also keep Kansas out of the news, which is a good thing too - the less Kansas is on the minds of the people the fewer jokes about wheat, flatness and the fucking wizard of oz I’ll have to hear.

Graduating in 2008

SchoolStuff, Zombies! 3 Comments »

Oh noes! I had advising today and dropped my second major, so now I’ll officially be a college graduate in December of 2008.

scary

No idea what I want to do at that point - do I apply immediately to Graduate school? Take a semester off and travel? Find gainful employment?

I dunno!

But that’s OK because I have 14 months to decide ;)

30th Birthday Party

Ohhhhhhhhhhhh kay! Where to start? Shall we start the post the same way we started last night? Witha shot of warm Jose Cuervo? shudder

Last night was amazing. Even with the warm Jose.

Emitt organized a fabulous party for me “2 Dirty 4 Thirty” at Nathan and David’s house in Phoenix. I don’t normally do shots of tequila (unless you consider rapid infusion of margarita a shot) but since it was my birthday party and I didn’t have to drive - what the hell, why not.. right?? It was a red theme and everyone was supposed to show up in something red.. The Jose certainly had me seeing red.. tequila BAD!

So much fun though! Lots and lots of people showed up and once the party hit critical mass I don’t think anyone didn’t have a good time. It was really nice to see several people that I hadn’t seen in a long time as well as a few new people that were in the +guest category.

So a nice heartfelt thank-you to Lady Emitt for organizing (and showing up in drag.. hot..), David and Nathan for allowing their home to be used, and everyone else who showed up or called :)

So I guess having a party makes it official. After nearly two weeks of denial I am comfortable in saying that I am now officially 30.

Sounds weird.

Week End Update

Getting Old: I survived my 30th birthday! My fraternity brothers and I went to Buffalo Wild Wings and we had delicious hot-wings to celebrate. My mom sent me a crazy card that read something like “Oh, if only I could be 30 again - wait - I was unemployed and pregnant” which nearly made me drive off the road I was laughing so hard. But I regained control because I didn’t want to make the news as one of those senile old men that drives into a crowded market and kills half-a-dozen people.

Travel/Shenanigans: So today we’re going to California… to SoCal to Gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay Disney this weekend.. I’m driving someone else’s car and there are five of us… I hope I can survive :) This will be my first trip to California - granted I’m going to be in LA which most people just kinda roll their eyes about - but whatever - its one more state I can add to my list of places visited. Several of my classmates told me I should visit the San Francisco-and-north region of the state, which is fine and dandy but that isn’t the goal of this weekend :) I think I’ll just get a job this spring and buy a motorcycle and tour the west this summer with a tent and my camera. THAT would be awesome.

Travel: I got my passport back already today - one full week’s turn-around time - I think that’s pretty impressive.

School: I sought the advice of the sages, and they pretty much agreed with what I want to do: Drop the Interdisciplinary Studies BIS degree and just focus on the Photography BFA degree. I can still do a sociology minor, but this clears the way for me to graduate on time which at this point is a major goal. It also frees up my schedule a bit to focus more on art classes and opens the way for me to find an internship/job next year during my (final) senior year at ASU. w00t.

Battlestar Cracklactica: SciFi channel is advertising a lot for their new Battlestar Galactica mini-series which means one thing: its coming in December. They’re advertising it so heavily that I hope they don’t OVER hype it.. but who am I kidding - I’ll love it even if its ridiculous.

ZOMBIES: Speaking of ridiculous - on Monday some of the brothers and pledges went to go see Resident Evil: Extinction. Amazing Zombie movie. Plus, as in all her other films, you get to see Milla Jovovich’s ta-ta’s.
